Our first test of the year ended in a 2-1 slip

We were at the Area 3 Sporting Complex on Thursday, January 16 to have our first test game of the year against the FCT Sports Festival team and we were defeated 2-1.

The Sports Festival team is a selected side from all league clubs in the FCT that will play a Zonal Elimination in Ilorin, Kwara State ahead of the Edo 2020 Sports Festival in March.

However, it was an avenue for both sides to have a test of the work done so far, especially as the Champions Who Care are warming up for this season’s NLO that will kick off on March 26,2020 as announced by the league body.

Both teams, from kickoff, exhibited class and possession football with most actions taking place at the middle but the ball at the start was mostly on the legs of FWC Champions FC players.

Regardless, FWC Champions received a major test when the Sports Festival side pulled an attack that hit the cross bar.

Timothy Daweng was also close to putting the Champions Who Care ahead but was not timely in reaching the ball in his attempt to connect to a square play.

However, Nonye James made an early difference when he scored a superb freekick.

About 7 minutes later, Michael Odey leveled the score line with a brilliant strike as the First Half ended 1-1.

The game was however, decided in the second half when Michael Odey scored his brace and that decided the score for the day.

Our head Coach, Bartholomew David, in his post-match reaction, noted that the game helped him to assess the team and the areas he needed to work upon.

“From the pitch, to the weather and the game, we have been able to learn a lot and it will help us to assess ourselves.

” We will resume training and work more on the team” he said
